The News:
December 24, 2009 - An unplanned wildcat strike by the elves up at the North Pole has kept Santa busy the past few days turning out Christmas gifts. So finally, today is the first moment Santa has had to cull through any pictures and post them on the site. If you would like to see what is there so far, please click here. Hopefully, depending upon time, there will be more posted as the weekend goes on.
p.s. - Thanks to freakin' Facebook, the email address has been slammed and we missed that one of our Santa-ettes lost her keys. If anyone found an extra set that didn't work in your car when you got back the the Gaelic League that night, please let Santa know. Thanks.
December 20, 2009 - Post Traumatic Santarchy Syndrome :: The Aftermath
Well Santas and Santa-ettes, another Santarchy has come and gone. If you're like me, you are probably still feeling the effects. Damn! I tried to drink an orange juice this morning, but I couldn't drink it until I poured it into a long neck bottle. Thank god for vodka.
Santa hopes you all had a freakin' good time, and that you even remember it. And Santa's pretty sure there's a few memories you wish you could forget. Anyway, there's a whole lot of freakin' memories floating out there on cameras, some of them might even be admissible in a court of law. So if you would like to share some of these memories with the website: http://www.detroitsantarchy.net, and to help fill the missing pieces to Santa's alcohol induced blackout, please email them to us at santarchist at detroitsantarchy dot com.
For the record, Santa probably won't get much done today. Even the spiders creeping on their webs are making my head pound. Oh well... Bad whiskey, the gift that keeps on giving.
Thanks to all who came out and had a good time!
December 19, 2009 - It all happens TONIGHT! Please read:
Well??? We somehow made it another year without being shipped off to a FEMA relocation camp. That enough is cause for celebration !!!!
Detroit Santarchy has evolved in its 10 years to one of Detroit's most fun parties. Although not as mischief based as our early years you all have Santa's blessings to have some fun that would otherwise get you a strange look any other time of the year.
Whatever hijinks you freaks muster up in your alkyhol infused brain do not under any circumstances violate Santa's #1 rule. Respect other Santa's and Santa helpers !! #2 Respect the bar workers and other patrons even if they're not into our type of fun. #3 Watch out for each other!! Remember ..Santa cannot really fly... Stay off roofs, tops of buses, cars, etc... I will not say anything bad about dancing on tables if the bar is hip to it. A few years back We had several people at Harry's and the Comet Bar grinding on the bar counter and tables. What a sight to behold!!!! #4 Keep track of time. If you're catching a bus back to Ann Arbor or Theatre Bizarre get back to the Gaelic League by 1:30.am Also keep track of your bus number. #5 Do not drive if you've been drinking. Chances are the City of Detroit is hip to us and would love the revenue a DUI would bring not to mention you could really screw up your Christmas or someone elses. Be smart, be safe and save your cash for good things and not for paying for your incarceration at Camp Detroit.
We'll see all of you in a few hours. We've been blessed with a bit of snow today which should cushion your slips and falls. IT WILL BE A FUN NIGHT!!!!! SANTA CAN FEEL IT !!!!!
p.s. Just to be clear. You can ride ANY bus during the pub crawl. Just remember to get on the right bus back to Ann Arbor or Theatre Bizarre. Never leave ANYTHING on any of the buses at ANY time.
December 18, 2009 - Santarchy is tomorrow FREAKS!!! Alot of people are worried about "when" "where" "how" crap. If Santa worried about minute details he would have grabbed one of the Red Ryder BB guns off the assembly line here at the North pole and started mowing down Elves.
By now, Santa doesn't believe in a big brother approach to Santarchy. Santarchy is self regulated and not a guided tour of Detroit ghetto bars. Santa provides the means of safe travel (sober bus driver)and... SANTA CREATES THE FUN!!!
We'll all meet at the Gaelic League between 8pm and 9pm regardless of if you're arriving from one of our satellite locations or driving in. If you're not on one of the buses from Ann Arbor or Theatre Bizarre find a cab or someone in AA who loves a challenge to drive to and from our starting point: Detroit Gaelic League.
After we all grab some swill from there or LJ's (the bar next door) the buses will start rolling to the Corktown Tavern, the Works, and Casey's. The Corktown Tavern will have cool fun stuff happening all night for the Santa's with 3 bands and $2 PBR's !!! The bands that night are Hobo Gang Bang, The Shakey Jakes, Black Tuesday. So even though the buses will hit there initially at 9:30 and move on , feel free to catch one of the buses from wherever you are and get back there at any time you want. If the buses drivers do their job you should see a bus every 5-10 minutes from any of our stops. After the Corktown Tavern the buses will head to Harry's, The Comet Christmas bar and Another Fucking Bar. On our way back through there will be a stop at the Lagerhouse.
If you're on any of the buses from Theatre Bizarre or Ann Arbor please make sure you're back at the Gaelic League by 1:30 otherwise you may become property of the City of Detroit and could be sold at auction. For some of you it may not be a bad deal and a simple way of determining what you're really worth. Again... no fighting... no bad attitudes... we all get enough of that crap in day to day motor city life. Respect your fellow Santas' and only puke on another Santa if its 100% neccessary. Don't give the bus drivers any shit either. We've all been sober once or twice and know how annoying well oiled Alky's can be in groups. Another thing!!!!! remember your bus number for travel back to Ann Arbor or Theatre Bizarre. Once in route between bars ride any bus you want. Take your belongings off the bus EVERY time. Every year I have to hear about crap left on the buses... coats...goats... cameras... whatever??? Velcro, bungee or staple yer cheap ass stuff to yer cheap ass Santa suit !!! That is all for now. Now go away.
December 17, 2009 - Blurb in Ann Arbor.com. Thanks to David Bardallis.
December 13, 2009 - As you all well know, Detroit Santarchy is this Saturday December 19th. Our meeting venue this year is the Detroit Gaelic League. Last year's fiasco at Blondies had Santa hopping mad, throwing up eggnog, and bleeding out of his eyes. Needless to say Santa won't be returning to Blondies. Humorous sidebar (The manager there who called himself "X" a few months later became known as "X Employee" ...Geez ..I wonder why??)
So here's the scoop for 2009. This year we'll have two buses leaving from Theatre Bizarre and one from the Blind Pig/8 Ball Saloon in Ann Arbor. The Theatre Bizarre buses will start loading up at 7pm; and the Ann Arbor birkenstock bus at 6:45 pm. Don't piss around and get there late because the Theatre Bizarre buses will be leaving at 7:15 pm sharp; and the A2 bus leaves promptly at 6:50-7:00 pm. For the uninitiated Theatre Bizarre is located on State Fair, 2 blocks east of Woodward Ave. Parking is on the street . The Blind Pig has a parking garage directly across from it so hopefully you can focus long enough to find it.
The bus pass this year is $20 (even for all you hippies coming from Ann Arbor!!) Again... Get there early. You know... 6:30ish and pack a $20 bill for Santa's sake! Bus passes will be sold as you board the bus and we don't need to be fumblin' in the dark through your coin collection, wrinkled up dollar bills, food stamps, etc... etc... etc...
If your plan is to just show up at the Gaelic League (Michigan Ave. 1 block west of Rosa Parks) get there between 8 and 10pm. They have a big ass parking lot but you still might want to leave the Lexus home that night. Santa has never had a problem parking there. Then again you should see some some of shit I have to drive. Bus passes will be sold till 11-11:30 p.m.ish at the Gaelic League. After that the bus helpers will have a few passes on hand for you pokey straggler Santas.
The buses will start rolling at 9:30. To get things goin' and keep things moving, here's the plan. The sleighs will take a load of Santas to the first stop Corktown Tavern, The Works and Casey's then return to the Gaelic League and pick up more Santas. After the second drop off the buses will continue to stop 2 Feel free to hang where you're at for a bit... or continue onward. Stop 3 is will at Harry's, Comet Bar and AFB aka "Another Fucking Bar", formerly known as the 2500 club. Rumor has it they cleaned the old 2500 club place up a bit. After Dec. 19th I'm sure the stench will be back. The buses will then return to the Gaelic League with a stop off at the Lagerhouse then Caseys/Corktown/Works. There will be 4 buses running all night so hopefully you'll see a bus every 5-10 minutes or so . We also are finishing up the art for our first ever Detroit Santarchy T-shirt which will be on sale saturday night. We'll post the artwork up in a few days. Stay tuned freaks. Santa
Oh! For a little fun, check out this little video.
December 7, 2009 - I know alot of you no longer use MySpace that much since the advent of Facebook. Come on freaks! Its just "MySpace for old farts." ........anyways.....Detroit Santarchy can be found there at http://www.facebook.com/detroitsantarchy. For those of you who do not mess with the Facebook or MySpace... Fear not. You will still find updates here at the main website.
The meeting place this year is at the Detroit Gaelic League on Michigan Avenue. We will have 2 buses leaving from Theatre Bizarre at 7pm sharp. Theatre Bizarre is located on State Fair, two blocks east of Woodward. If you're in the Ferndale/Royal Joke area its a cheap cab ride. DON'T RISK A DUI!!! We also have a bus leaving from Ann Arbor. If there's another area that you think you can muster 40-50+people to catch the bus from e-mail us and we'll see if its doable. The cost this year is the same as its been for the last 6-7 years $20. Bus passes for the night will also be sold at the Gaelic League from 8pm till 11pm or so. So you can hit all the bars on the route. More news less logistical and more fun will follow in the next two weeks. Please pass on the links and info so that everyone is in the loop. Now F@#k off!
Love,
Santa
December 5, 2009 - Ok... ok... Santa has been slacking a bit. With the North Pole now in foreclosure...(not just Santa's mad pad) I mean the whole F#@!king North Pole MANNN!!! Santa has resorted to many terrible things to pay the bills. Killing the pain of watching a once robust and curvy Mrs. Claus shrink down to a mere 47 lbs has taken its toll. I knew that diet of paint chips and gin wasn't the best thing for her..but what could I do?
I've been meaning to send updates now for the last two months but found more solice in alcohol and other dillusional activities . Times are tough here but there is light ahead....it may be the headlights of a semitruck closing in on my sleigh as I lay stranded on I-94 in the fast lane with my emaciated reindeer coughing up blood... but still its light. With this glimmer hope and the fact that we have not been directed to FEMA camps just yet I think its time let loose again . If your livers are up for it, Detroit Santarchy will be held Saturday December 19th.
Two buses will again be leaving from Theatre Bizarre at 7pm for our first destination The Detroit Gaelic League. We'll also have a bus leaving from Ann Arbor's 8 ball Saloon at 6:30pm. This year we're keeping the "stop" list shorter so that we will have more Santas in less bars. There's just something about seeing 200 or more santas in one place at any one time that makes me smile...if I could smile. More details will follow I PROMISE!!!!
November 11, 2009 - The DetroitSantarchy happens on Saturday December 19, 2009. More info to come around Thanksgivingish or so. In the meantime, Santa has a Mai Tai to finish.

Today 2009 - Old crusty Santa is still recovering from the last Santarchy. I was a swattin' at spiders that were not there for three days and a shakin' something fierce. Hopefully you had as good a time as I did, and maybe you're still trying to put the pieces together from that night. Well, this is where we can help each other remember the black out. So if you would like to share a picture or two with us from this year's event, please send an to email to santarchist at detroitsantarchy dot com. We haven't received much yet in the way of pictures, but if you would like to see what we have had a chance to put up, please go here.
Metrotimes Article
There was an article about our event from 2004 in the Metrotimes, written by Sarah Klein. You can link to it here. And once again, we at DetroitSantarchy want to thank the bars for hosting us.
