December 21, 2007 - Old crusty Santa is still recovering from last Saturday. I was a swattin' at spiders that were not there for three days and a shakin' something fierce. Hopefully you had as good a time as I did, and maybe you're still trying to put the pieces together from that night. Well, this is where we can help each other remember the black out. So if you would like to share a picture or two with us from this year's event, please send an to email to santarchist at detroitsantarchy dot com. We haven't received much yet in the way of pictures, but if you would like to see what we have had a chance to put up, please go here.
December 13, 2007 - OK, Santas. It's getting down to the wire. Did you patch up your suit or buy a new suit yet? Nothin' makes Santa hit the bottle harder than getting 50 emails the day before Santarchy with, "Do you have a suit I can buy?" "Where can I buy a suit?" It's the same crap every year… Check out Target, Walmart, costume shops, mug a Mall Santa, etc... You figure it out! It's too late to find something on the interweb, so don't bother going down that road. Ann Arbor Santas: The meeting place is at Ann Arbor Brewing. Be there by 6:30 pm!!! That's 2 hours after you wake up if you're going by Ann Arbor hippie time. The bus will leave A2 by 7pm. It's an hour bus ride, so bring necessary survival liquids (wink, wink).
Be respectful of the bus driver and the buses or you'll be TAZED with some Christmas joy... As usual, there will be some really gorgeous Santa's helpers. Be respectful of them and everyone else. This isn't a grope fest. If you have to puke...DO NOT PUKE ON THE BUS! The aisle way on the bus makes for the worst kind of slip n slide when barf is the major ingredient. The buses have windows that open. Use them! Nothing says "MERRY CHRISTMAS" like seeing a pedestrian's face when Santa's head is hanging out the bus window decorating the side of the bus as only a bad Santa can do. Between that and the occasional "Santa mooning," it's so good to give Detroit back a little something. ~ ok..ok..back to pertinent info… There will be two buses picking up Santas at Theatre Bizarre at 7pm and will be GONE by 7:15 !!! You can get your bus pass there. Theatre Bizarre is located on State Fair, 2 blocks east of Woodward and one half mile South of 8 Mile. More info will be thrown at you in the next day. There are 14 bars on this years list. We ran the route the last few nights and have it as streamlined and best laid out as possible. I wish Kwami's road planning crew had a clue about timing lights. Jeez!! The point isn't to make cars stop at every freakin' light!!! I digress, sorry. NONE of the clubs on the list will be charging cover to any Santas or Santas' helpers. Most of the bars will have drink specials for us, as well. Although a good portion of the watering holes are the same in past years, we've added some new ones to keep things interesting. We encourage you to check out not just the fancy shmancy bars, but a few of the creepy dives too. Santa digs "character" over glitz. The Gaelic League is the hub!! They will have food all night long available for sale. All buses will leave from there, make their route, then return there to drop off or pick up more people. If you don't see a bus outside, hang in there . With the exception of Northern Lights Lounge and The Old Miami, a bus should shwing by every 10 minutes or less. Expect 20-25 minute cycle times with those two bars. The buses will all make a last pass through at 1:30 to return to the Gaelic League. Make sure your best friend isn't stuck on a toilet somewhere and gets left behind. Limit bowel movements to 3 minutes, and none after 1am.
December 11, 2007 - Attention all of you Santa and Santa-ette wannabees. To be eligible to purchase a bus pass, you must be attired as a Santa, a Santa-ette, a Santa Helper, an Elf, a Reindeer or in other appropriate costuming. For example, the Easter Bunny and Great Pumpkin are welcome to join in on the fun. No costume, no Santarchy.
November 27, 2007 - Oh oh! Where the hell did the time go? Yep, it's that time of year again and the 2007 event is coming up real fast on Saturday December 15th. This year we will meet again at the Detroit Gaelic League at 8pm. There will be approx. 12-15 bars on this years sleigh ride. Unlike past years, no one single bar can handle the huge amount of santas we expect (except the Gaelic League) so we are going to try something different. The plan is to have the four buses traveling in a loop, which means you can catch a bus every 5 minutes or so. You will also be able to get back to the Gaelic league at anytime should you wimp out early like some kinda of nancy boy or sissy girl. The bar list will be finalized in soon, and the bus pass will be $20 again this year. More news to follow. stay tuned.

And for our friends from Ann Arbor... Every year we get more and more Santas from A2 who participate in Detroit Santarchy. Rather than having a buttload of glowing Santas terrorize I-94 in their Volvo's and Subaru's we're in the process of sending one of the chartered buses to Ann Arbor to pick ya up and drop you back off. The most likely spot will at Ann Arbor Brewing or Ashley's. To keep things on schedule, The bus would have to be loaded and moving by 7pm SHARP! The bus pass will be $25 instead of the normal $20 to cover the added bus time. Its cheaper than a DUI! Please consider it if you're from the A2/ypsi area.

Finally, freakin' Crippled Santa wants to apologize for being so slow about getting pictures posted on the site. But he done been hurtin'real bad. Then once he started to feelin' better, he got real busy making toys and all. If you want to see what did get posted, here are a few pics from 2006.

!!!! And remember, always be a fun but responsible Santa. Have a designated driver for the trip home at the end of the night. And not just any designated driver either. Get a non-drinking one. !!!!

Metrotimes Article
There was an article about our event from 2004 in the Metrotimes, written by Sarah Klein. You can link to it here. And once again, we at DetroitSantarchy want to thank the bars for hosting us.

The Plans:
Plans for 2007 will be posted soon.
It's also a really good plan to bribe one of your friends to be a designated driver for the ride home at the end of the night: we don't want to hear 'drunken santa being hauled into jail for a dui' stories. Or consider hiring a cab for the ride home. Sure it sounds expensive, but it's a whole lot cheaper than a dui rap.

The 2007 Itinerary:
All of the bars from last year plus some new ones. The Irish Gaelic League is ground zero for this event.
The Test:
And finally, maybe you're visiting this site because you've heard of Santarchy, but you wonder if you're 'Santa Enough' to participate? Well wonder no more. We've provided a little quiz for you to find out -- just take the test. See you soon.
